Welcome to December! We will celebrate the season of Advent with prayers, songs and candles. Advent is a time of preparation and hope. Your child has brought home an Advent wreath and calendar to share with you.
On Friday, December 20th, we will be going to Mass at 9:00 AM. After the Mass the primary grades will be sharing their Advent and Christmas songs. Please feel free to join us at this special celebration. There will be an early dismissal at 10:50 AM.
Enjoy this holiday season! I love to see the magic of Christmas through the eyes of your little ones! It was so much fun sharing the excitement of decorating our classroom Christmas tree!
Please use this blog to keep current with our exciting classroom activities throughout the school year.

November News
We have been very busy this month in Kindergarten!
The skills we are learning in reading are amazing - identifying nouns and proper nouns, adjectives and verbs, classifying and categorizing, comparing and contrasting, sequencing, and identifying the main idea - just to name a few! We continue to practice rhyming, segmenting words and blending sounds together to read words.
Please practice high-frequency words on a daily basis.
In math we are working with numbers greater than ten. Please practice counting to 100 by ones and tens.
I hope you are enjoying our November songs and fingerplays. We have so much to be thankful for! Happy Thanksgiving!

October Happenings
October is filled with many activities about Saints, Guardian Angels, fire prevention, Columbus and Halloween. We have been learning many songs, so be on the lookout for the next installment of my kindergarten songbook!
In reading, we are focusing on letter recognition, syllables in words, rhyming words, story characters, setting and sequence. Thank you for encouraging your child to print using proper left-to-right and top-to-bottom progression and proper spacing between letters. I will be sending home high-frequency word cards for you to practice each day with your child.
In math, we are counting groups of objects to 10 and writing numerals 0 - 10. Thank you for supervising your child's homework to see that the directions have been followed correctly.
We will celebrate Halloween on Thursday, October 31st. A Halloween snack will be provided for the party. My room mother will contact you to send in any supplies or snacks. Due to food allergies, do not send any edible treats. Costumes should be worn to school. Please make sure that the costume is comfortable and easy for your child to use the bathroom unassisted. For safety's sake - no props!
Recently, we had a visitor to our room - while we were at lunch, a cute little house sparrow came in the window to check out kindergarten. After opening the windows wider and leaving the room, it was able to fly out to my feeders for a treat. Such excitement!

June is here!
June brings feelings of gladness and sadness. This has been a very productive year in kindergarten. We have learned to read, add and subtract, write in journals and most of all - we have learned to identify birds by sight and sound!
On Thursday, June 6th, the kindergartens will present "The Seasons of Kindergarten" in the gym at 7:00PM. We have been practicing very hard and are so excited to show off our songs and poems.
On Tuesday, June 11th, Mrs. Haseley from the Lockport Public Library will be coming to visit. She is hoping that your child will be interested in signing up for the summer reading program - they have wonderful activities!
The kindergarten classes will be going to the Buffalo Zoo on Wednesday, June 12th, rain or shine. I am looking forward to seeing the little polar bears, Kali and Luna!
Thank you so much for your support this year! Happy birdwatching! Have a great summer!!
